Hi, I'm Michela!

Some of the best career advice that I have been seeing on social media lately is to always be an active candidate in the job market.

This was advice I heard while I was working my corporate job, but I never took it seriously (and I should have).

What does being an active candidate in the job market mean?

It means that whether you are currently seeking a new position or not, you are always ready as a candidate to apply, interview, and seize an opportunity should it come your way.

To be an active candidate in the market is actually quite easy and does not require a lot of work.

Today I am going to share 3 low-effort ways to do this and potentially find a new job if that is what you’re seeking!

Here’s what we’ll cover:

πŸ‘‰πŸ» Leveraging job alerts

πŸ‘‰πŸ» Maintaining an updated resume

πŸ‘‰πŸ» Simple networking tip!!

Obviously I cover all of this and more inside Own Your Career, so if you ready to take your professional power back make sure you grab your copy HERE!

πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ’» Turn on Job Alerts!

Sounds obvious, but having your job alerts on makes it so much easier to always be β€œin the know” about what opportunities are open as soon as they come up.

You can set your notifications to email you once per week, or once every few days, and then take time to review and look at opportunities that are currently available.

This is a great way to research different types of jobs related to your career, understand skills that are necessary that you may want to hone, and ensure that you don’t miss an opportunity that might be perfect for you!

πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ’» Update Your Resume
Raise your hand if you haven’t updated your resume since the last time you were actively looking for a job πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

This is common practice, but it is not an efficient career habit and here are a few reasons why:
πŸ‘‰πŸ» You are always doing more work
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Updating a resume for years of experience is very time consuming
πŸ‘‰πŸ» You may miss an opportunity!

I recommend you update your resume every 6 months. You can add in new experience and continuously hone and refine your resume for new opportunities.

Plus, if you’re alerted via your job alerts that the perfect job is available, you’ll be ready to apply right away!

I have a FREE resume template – you can download it HERE!

πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ’» Grow Your Network (without the hassle)

I recently saw a video from a friend of mine – HannaGetsHired – and she shared her Golden Rule of Networking that I thought was so efficient.

Any time she sees someone with a background that she admires, she sends them a cold DM right away. This could be on social media or on LinkedIn via a connection request.

She does this for a few reasons:

πŸ‘‰πŸ» If she doesn’t send it right away, she knows she won’t do it

πŸ‘‰πŸ» It provides space to open a conversation without pressure

It’s a super simple way to constantly grow your network without only doing so when youΒ needΒ something (which is inauthentic and also doesn’t work). Give it a try – I know I will!
